If You Listen, Music Will Find You: 35mm Photographs of the Bay Area Underground
Two books covering 35mm film photographs of the Bay Area underground music scene spawning from 2018 to 2023. One book covers pre-lockdown (2018-2020) and the next post-lockdown (2021-2023).
Was debuted with a month long exhibit at HIT Gallery in the Mission District in San Francisco beginning March 16th 2024 onwards. Huge shoutout to Peter Hurley and the HIT crew for making the books and show happen.
Name was inspired by a quote said by Gabriel Fowler at his comic shop Desert Island in Brooklyn NYC. He was playing tracks off of “Remain in Light” by Talking Heads, some of which I hadn’t heard of so I’d asked what he was playing. He mentioned who and what he was spinning and I responded that I figured “Remain in Light” was probably a good record but that I hadn’t gotten around to listening to all of it. He said something to the effect of, “… that’s the thing, music just finds you. You don’t always have to look”. That quote stuck with me forever and became the namesake of these books
